The New Album is here November 9, 2024 + Album/Vinyl Release Concert

I'm beyond stoked right now - after what seems like forever, I have a new album coming out in just ONE MONTH!  It’s called “For Others”, because all the songs on it I wrote for and about other people.  I’ve release a few of them as singles so far, maybe you’ve heard a couple?   You can pre-save the whole Album on Spotify here.  And it’ll be available on all streaming platforms November 9th.

And if you’re in the Southern California area on November 9th, I would be absolutely delighted to see you at my full-band album / vinyl release concert at an incredibly beautiful new venue experience out in the hills of Vista/San Marcos called the Bornemann Theater – you can find info and tickets on that here.

Now - about the album, and the concert –

A few years back, something interesting happened in the way of my songwriting.  I was asked to share a couple of my songs at a local church, and wound up sharing the stage with the guest speaker that day, a man whose story of murder and forgiveness absolutely floored me.  It was a message I believed the world needed to hear, and I would do whatever very small part I could to help amplify the message through my way of serving, which is with song.  So I later asked if I could interview him and write a song about his experience.  That man was Azim Khamisa, and the resultant song, “The Perfect Path”.

After that experience, a sort of musical antennae grew inside me – the hunt for inspiration for songs was no longer just trained on my own experiences, but vastly widened to the inspiring stories of others around me.  If I met someone whose story caused a flutter in my heart or a spontaneous outpouring of empathy or inspiration, I would wonder if they’d share on a deeper level with me their insights and story, and if they’d permit me to write a song about them.  I was gifted with the opportunity to do that on a few occasions.  The result is this new album, thusly titled, “For Others”.

Some of the songs are celebrations of people’s dreams, hard work and persistence.  They are fun, light, and joyful.  Other songs are not so easy to hear.  Serious stuff.  But with a message, with hope, with healing.

One of them is about my friend Johnathan, whose son took his own life at the age of 14.  Johnathan’s suffering, honesty, and compassion to help other parents going through the hell of losing a child to suicide was hugely inspiring to me.  We sat and talked deeply.  Then I sat alone with his story.  I said a prayer to his son Chase to invite him into the process of what could be transmitted to others through a song.  Out came the song, “Keep On Love”, one of the most real songs I’ve ever written.  I can’t wait to share it with you.

This album is also special to me, because I produced a lot of it at my home studio, just like I did my first album, way back in 2003.  But this time, I sent it around the country for collaboration with amazing artists, like to Nashville, where my friend Caitlyn Evanson lavished her string arrangements throughout the songs, which ties this collection of songs together in a magical way on the album.  Haunting, brimming with beauty and skill from my favorite violin player.  From there, it made it’s way to various parts of Los Angeles, where my friend Daniel Mandelman added his brilliant strokes and layers of piano and organ.  To Andre De Santanna, adding his perfect basslines, and to Tamir Barzilay with the tastiest and most subtle drum parts.

So yes, I’m excited about this one!  Albums don’t come easy these days.  The songs have been consistently flowing, gratefully, but an album is a different animal.  I can’t wait to share it with you.

Especially, if you’re in the Southern California area, it’ll be well worth a trip to North San Diego County on Saturday, November 9th, to the hills of Vista/San Marcos, to a lovely new venue where I’ll be hosting my Album and Vinyl Release Concert at the brand-new Bornemann Theater on the TERI Campus of Life, a mission-driven campus serving teens and young adults with special needs.  It will be a rare full-band experience, playing the album in full, plus some older faves, as well as some new material.  Come early to enjoy a meal at their farm-to-table café, which has a great happy hour!  It’s a smaller, intimate venue, so get tickets early!!!  Tickets are available here - https://events.humanitix.com/michael-tiernan

You guys are the best:) See you soon! Michael
