The Songs Inspired by Crestone
The SLV Tour Guide Playlist!
Hi, traveler! I'm so glad you decided to check out the songs that were penned in, or inspired by, this magical place. Here's a bit more about each song....
1. "I'm Ready" - Written circa 1995 on a song-writing retreat at Nada Hermitage in Crestone, I was sitting out on the roof of my cabin underneath the Milky Way late, late at night. I had melody going through my head, "That which made all this....." No other words tho. I went to bed, woke up about an hour later, and the whole song was there....
2. "Children of the Stars" - Written in 2022 for the Town of Crestone's Dark Sky Festival Celebration, based on the story of Crestone-resident and artist, Patrick Moore.
3. "Mountains" - A custom legacy song I wrote in 2024 for the mother of a young man who passed away in Colorado via a motorcycle accident. Rather than being a downer of a song, it celebrate's Tait's joy and zest for life, love of music, and passion for the great outdoors.
4. "Same Sky" - Written on a songwriting retreat at Nada Hermitage, during a music tour I was on. I was driving to Crestone from a music festival in Fairplay, heading through Poncha Pass as the Aspen leaves were turning for the Fall. There was so much beauty, it hurt! I was wanting to share that beauty with my wife at home, and started the song while driving. When I got to Crestone, my wife had left me a message that she was looking up at the sky over the Pacific at home in California and thinking about me. Thus, we were connecting under that Same Sky.
5. "Holding Souls" is a Legacy song I wrote for a former resident of Crestone, that was commissioned by his wife. It celebrates their love and lasting connecting, again with imagery of where mountain meets desert.
6. "Crestone" - Well, this one's self-explanatory! Written about my crazy dreaming and scheming of buying property in this amazing town.
7. "Run" - one of those songs that I write to myself to remind myself to Slow Down and Take It Easy - which is easy to do when you get to Crestone, and is why we come here!
8. "St. Theresa" - the first time I staying in Crestone was on a 30 day silent retreat in 1998 when I entered the seminary. The cabin I stayed was named after St. Terese (of Lisieux), a saint with whom I had a huge connection through my life. Here is an ode to a long spiritual path.
9. "Swim" - A song about having the courage to jump fully into life and purpose, written at the sister monastery of the Nada Hermitage in Ireland, on the eve of the new millennium of 2000.
10. "Pass on By" - One of the original songs I wrote on my first trip to Crestone in 1998. It was here I began to realize my calling as artist.
11. "Feed Your Soul" - Yep - that's what we're doing out here! Feeding our soul.
Hope you enjoyed this playlist! Thanks for stopping by.
